Jayettes stumble in early January games

BONDURANT — The Perry girls were handed setbacks by ADM, South Hamilton, and Class 4A No. 10 Bondurant-Farrar in recent action.

The Jayettes took on the host Lady Jays Jan. 12, with B-F scoring a 62-18 win. The game came a day after Perry saw a five-point halftime lead vanish in a 49-37 non-conference loss to visiting South Hamilton, with ADM topping host Perry, 62-35, Jan. 7.

B-F wasted little time in deciding their game with Perry by opening a 23-1 gulf after just eight minutes of play. The score moved to 41-6 at the half.

Lydia Olejniczak had 11 points and five rebounds for Perry, with Jayna Kenney adding six points and six boards while Kennedy Tunink sank a free throw.

Perry opened a 22-17 lead at the half against South Hamilton, but the Hawks used a 16-6 third quarter to enter the final frame leading, 33-28. The Jayettes played well, but could not make up the difference in suffering the loss.

Kenney had 13 points, five rebounds and three steals, with Olejniczak recording 12 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and two steals. Callie Steva had six points for the hosts, with Kathryn West, Phoebe Stewart, and Michelle Tobar scoring two points apiece.

Perry faced a 24-6 deficit after one frame against ADM and trailed 37-13 at the break.

Olejniczak had the hot hand, sinking three 3-pointers en route to 22 points. Tobar tallied five points and Kenney four, with Tunink and Stewart each scoring two points. Stewart pulled down 12 rebounds and Olejniczak eight, with Tobar clearing five boards and Kenney and Tunink four each.
