Visiting Winterset kept Perry winless in Raccoon River Conference volleyball with a 3-0 sweep Tuesday. The Huskies won, 25-19, 25-9 and 25-16 to improve to 9-10 overall and 1-4 in league play while the Jayettes fell to 3-18, 0-6.
Tuesday’s “Dig For A Cure” match was dedicated to the fight against cancer. Perry wore special pink uniforms, with many in the crowd — particularly in the student section — also donning various shades of pink. A variety of activities were held and donations collected, with all proceeds to be given to the American Cancer Society.
Tuesday was also the day Perry discovered their postseason assignment. The Jayettes will open Class 4A Region 2 play Oct. 18 at Harlan, with the winner to face host and sixth-ranked Sergeant Bluff-Luton Oct. 24.
The other side of the bracket has the ADM vs. Boone winner traveling to Glenwood. The Region 2 Final will be played at the highest remaining seed Oct. 30.
Perry is still looking to win a set in RRC play. The Jayettes have dropped 20 straight matches in conference play, and have been swept in all but two.
Jo Diw led Perry at the net Tuesday with eight kills and three blocks. Jaqueline Guardado had three kills and Sid Vancil two, with Adriana Eastman, Gabby West and Isabel Saemisch tallying one kill apiece. Saemisch also had two blocks.
Vancil had 12 assists, Diw two and Eastman one, with Syd Guerra recording 11 digs and Eastman 10. Diw had five digs and Magley Orellana four, with Vancil making three digs, Saemisch two and Guardado, West and Mackenzie Ayers one apiece.
Diw and Eastman each finished 8-of-9 serving, with Guerra 7-of-8 and Vancil 6-of-7. Guardado was 5-of-5 with Perry’s lone ace, with Saemisch 5-of-5 and West 1-of-1.
Perry will host the annual Jayette Invitational Thursday, with play beginning at 4:30 p.m. Ballard, Roland-Story, Saydel and Woodward-Granger will be the other teams attending.
