The Thomas Jefferson Gardens Board will host its second “Meet Your Legislator” event during the current legislative session Saturday, March 13 at 10 a.m. The Thomas Jefferson Gardens board continues to provide this community service because Thomas Jefferson recognized the importance of an informed electorate.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this forum will be held via Facebook. The board and moderator ask for your patience as we learn how to effectively use this social media. Instructions on how to join will appear on the Thomas Jefferson Gardens Facebook page and website. Specific instructions can be found below.

Iowa state Sen. Jesse Green and state Rep. Phil Thompson, who represent Greene County in the Iowa Legislature, have both been invited to this forum and have committed to attending.

Sen. Green represents Senate District 24, which is composed of Greene, Boone and Hamilton counties and portions of Webster and Story counties. He is a fifth-generation Iowa farmer and resides on a farm near Harcourt. This is Green’s first legislative session, and he serves on the following committees: Administrative Rules Review, Agriculture, Natural Resources, Veterans Affairs, Vice Chair Labor, Education Sub Appropriations, Ways and Means and Human Resources.

Rep. Thompson represents District 47, which encompasses Greene County and most of Boone County. He is beginning his second legislative session and is a Jefferson native. Thompson has been appointed to serve on the Appropriations, Economic Growth, Education, Government Oversight, Veterans Affairs and Chair of the Economic Development Budget.

Rick Morain, former editor of the Jefferson Bee and Herald, has once again graciously agreed to serve as the moderator for this Facebook interaction. Questions for the two Republican legislators may be submitted via Facebook, or to their email addresses to be answered individually at a later time.
