Jacob Allen Hubbs, 21, of Jefferson was arrested on a Carroll County warrant Friday on a charge of homicide by vehicle-operating under the influence.

A Jefferson man was arrested on a Carroll County warrant Friday in connection with a September 2020 motor vehicle collision that claimed the life of a Lanesboro man.

Jacob Allen Hubbs, 21, of 806 W. Washington St., Jefferson, was charged with homicide by vehicle-operating under the influence.

The crash occurred about 12:50 p.m. Sept. 4, 2020, at the intersection County Road E17 (130th Street) and Robin Avenue in rural Carroll County, according to an Iowa State Patrol crash report.

According to the report, Hubbs was traveling northbound on Robin Avenue in a 1997 Silverado pickup and failed to yield at the stop sign at County Road E17. Hubbs’ vehicle struck a 2007 Toyota Corolla, driven by Kenneth Lee Johnston, 76, of Lanesboro.

Johnson was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Hubbs and Brian Glenn Hubbs, 43, of Carroll, a passenger in Jacob Hubbs’ vehicle, were injured in the accident and transported to St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll by the Carroll County EMS.

A warrant for Jacob Hubbs’ arrest was ordered June 23 in Carroll County District Court and served June 28 by the Greene County Sheriff’s office. Hubbs allegedly “did unintentionally cause the death of Kenneth Lee Johnston by operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated,” according to court records.

Hubbs was held in the Carroll County Jail prior to his release on his own recognizance. He is scheduled for arraignment July 16 in Carroll County District Court.
