July 4, 2017

  • Shelly Gilbertson reported people trespassing at 607 W. South St. Officers made contact with two people there and advised them to leave.
  • Mary Ann Wright reported an injured cat in her garage at 503 N. Maple St. When an officer attempted to catch the animal, it ran from the garage and escaped.
  • An officer removed a deceased opossum from the roadway in the 500 block of S. Elm Street.
  • A caller reported a young girl screaming in the 500 block of S. Walnut Street. An officer made contact with two young girls and their mother in the area. All were fine.
  • An officer checked on a business alarm activation at 300 American Ave. All was fine at the business.
  • Callers reported a distraught female walking near Monroe and Vine streets. An officer later located the female walking in the 400 block of E. Lincoln Way. The female refused any assistance from the officer.
  • Jodi Ganoe reported two stray dogs in her yard at 600 W. Lincoln Way. An officer tracked down the animal’s owner and warned her for the animals at large. She was given a period of time to get the animals licensed with the city.
  • Brady Stauffer reported hearing gunshots or fireworks in the 1200 block of S. Grimmell Road. An officer did not locate anything in the area.
  • Veronica Ellsbury requested an officer at 509 S. Olive St., #B, for a civil child custody issue occurring there.
  • Billie Jo Hoosick complained about fireworks being set off near the 300 block of S. Maple Street. An officer spoke to two groups in the area and advised them to stop shooting them off.
  • Ashley Voege complained about fireworks being set off in the 800 block of W. State Street. An office spoke to group in the area, and it stopped.
  • A caller reported people parking along 220th Street near the casino to watch the fireworks display.
  • Marie Ratliff said her female Shih Tzu had gotten loose from her at 303 W. South St. An officer responded but did not locate the animal.
  • Dale Jones reported fireworks being set off near the 200 block of E. Adams Street.

July 5, 2017

  • Tashina Taylor spoke with an officer about a possible violation of a no-contact order. The officer is investigating the phone call.
  • Nellie Petterson reported the theft of lipstick from 107 N. Olive St.
  • Denise Walker said her cat fled from her vehicle as she watched the fireworks at the casino. The yellow tabby is declawed and neutered.
  • A local gas station reported a male offered to sell “dope” to a cashier at 303 N. Elm St. An officer is obtaining video and attempting to identify the subject.
  • An officer checked on an alarm activation at 771 Wild Rose Lane. Maintenance personnel determined water overflowing from a toilet prompted the alarm to sound.
  • George Crouch reported his credit card was fraudulently used in Jefferson and Perry. An officer is investigating with help from Perry Police Department.
  • Kelly Conner reported two young people taking photos of children at the Jefferson Municipal Swimming Pool at 710 South Maple Street. An officer was given a plate number on the vehicle the people were driving.
  • Janet Hickman reported falling victim to a phone scam. She said she received a phone call from someone claiming to work for Publisher’s Clearing House. She gave them her bank information to give a “donation.” She also went to Walmart and sent the subject $1,000 by wire. She was supposed to have a large sum of money deposited into her banking account, but it never showed up. The bank closed her account and opened a new one for her. An officer responded but has no way to investigate.
  • An officer assisted a motorist having mechanical issues in the 100 block of N. Pinet Street.
  • An officer investigated a two-vehicle personal injury accident at N. Maple and W. State streets. A 2005 Saturn Rely, owned and operated by Susan Durlam of Jefferson, was eastbound on W. State Street, and a 2005 Chrysler Sebring, owned and operated by Mina Cummings of Jefferson, was southbound on N. Maple Street. The vehicles collided in the intersection of N. Maple and W. State streets. The Durlam vehicle had a reported $1,000 in damages, while the Cummings vehicle suffered a reported $1,500 in damages. The Greene County EMS checked out the parties, but no transport was made. Officers located suspected narcotics in the Cummings vehicle and seized them for testing. Cummings was cited for fail to yield to vehicle on right. Future charges are pending lab results.
  • An officer located an open door in the 500 block of Greenewood Road.
  • An officer performed a traffic stop in the 500 block of W. Lincoln Way with a driver who failed to dim his high beams. During the stop, the officer detected the pungent odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. During a probable-cause search of the vehicle, the officer located narcotic-related items in a passenger’s purse. Arizona Skye Bunn, 21, of Boone was arrested and charged with first-offense possession of a controlled substance-marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
  • At the conclusion of an investigation that began on June 13, 2017, an officer requested arrest warrants for Danielle Rae Dawson, 33, of Grimes. Dawson is accused of eight counts of unauthorized use of credit card. Dawson reportedly took a family member’s credit card from Boone and used it at a local gaming hall in Jefferson. Dawson faces similar charges from other agencies in Iowa for use of the card.

July 6, 2017

  • An officer located an open door at 600 E. Lincoln Way. An officer was able to secure the door.
  • Heather Kinsey reported the theft of a bicycle and painting supplies from the driveway of 301 E. State St.
  • A local gas station reported a gas drive off in the amount of $30.07 from 303 N. Elm St. Employees provided an officer with a vehicle description and a partial plate. The officer later located the vehicle parked at a local gaming hall. The officer made contact with the owner of the vehicle, who advised he attempted to pay with his credit card, but it must not have gone through. He was advised to return to the gas station and settle his bill.
  • Megan Ball brought her cell phone to the Law Enforcement Center with several text messages from her estranged husband on it. There is an active no-contact order in place, with Ball as the protected party. Since an officer had proof the violation occurred, he requested an arrest warrant for Jake John Ball, 33, of Jefferson for violation of no-contact order.
  • An officer investigated a one-vehicle property damage accident at 220th and Elm streets. A 2013 Chevy Impala, owned and operated by Karen Patrick of Bayard, was westbound on 220th Street. The vehicle stopped at the posted four-way stop at Elm and 220th streets. The vehicle left the stop sign and struck the stop sign adjacent in the intersection. The vehicle suffered a reported $1,400 in damages. The sign was not damaged but had to be bolted back to the ground. Patrick was issued a citation for turning at intersection violation.
  • A local grocery store requested owner information on a vehicle that had been parked at the car-charging station for six hours. An officer provided the business with the name and address of the owner but took no further action as it was private property.
  • A traffic stop was performed at W. Central Street and N. Grimmell Road, resulting in Kristan Lawless of Ames being issued a citation for excessive speed.
  • An officer located an open business door at 610 N. Elm St.
  • A traffic stop was performed in the 700 block of N. Elm Street, resulting in Gabriel Sweers of Moville being issued a citation for driving on wrong side of a two-lane road.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
