October 9, 2019

  • A traffic stop at Vine Street and Lincoln Way resulted in Sheldon Boswell of Perry being issued a citation for driving while suspended.
  • Jason Everest reported a vehicle alarm activation on a truck at 203 E. Madison St. An officer contacted the vehicle’s owner and determined all was fine.
  • Jackie Cram reported construction workers at her neighbor’s residence were harassing her as she left her residence at 609 E. Adams St. An officer learned they did not spoke to Cram, and it did not fall under harassment to wave at someone.
  • Janon Olson reported barking dogs in the 600 block of N. Olive Street. An officer is working to speak with the animal’s owner about the issue.
  • Mike Mentzer reported a construction vehicle and trailer parked in front of his mailbox in the 500 block of E. Clark Street. Mentzer said the U.S. Postal Service will not be able to deliver his mail. An officer explained the issue to the workers, who moved the vehicle.
  • Charlie Paniagua spoke with an officer about a civil issue occurring with mail at 703 W. State St.
  • An officer spoke to the owner of a dog in the 500 block of W. South Street. The animal left its yard and aggressively approached a female and her small children. The owner of the dog said she is working to make repairs to her fence in order to stop the animal from escaping under the fence. The officer explained numerous city animal ordinances violations that can be placed against the animal if the problem continues.
  • Brooke Taylor reported fraudulent activity on her bank account. An officer is working with the bank on the issue.
  • Ace Hardware employees reported two young juveniles on the outside ledge of the overpass in the 600 block of N. Elm Street. The kids were gone from the area upon the arrival of the officer.
  • Gayle Roberts spoke to an officer concerning a vehicle parked on her private rental property in the 100 block of S. Oak Street. The officer is working to speak to the registered owner of the vehicle.
  • A traffic stop in the 1500 block of N. Elm Street resulted in Jacob Prince of Waukee being issued a citation for failure to display registration plate.

October 10, 2019

  • An officer responded to an alarm activation at a retail store at 106 W. Washington St. The officer found the business to be secure.
  • A traffic stop in the 800 block of N. Elm Street resulted in Wendy Kozal of Jefferson being issued a citation for excessive speed.
  • A caller reported of a group of middle-school-aged boys dropped to the ground in front of her vehicle and rolled around in the street at Vine and Madison streets. This occurred after Wednesday’s early dismissal from school. Officers are working to identify the students responsible and speak to them and their parents about the dangers of this behavior.
  • Brandi Hicks reported that unwanted persons came to her residence at 604 Rushview Drive. Hicks requested an officer to contact the couple and advise them not to return. The officer did so.
  • A caller reported a possible no-contact order violation at 206 E. Washington St. Officers spoke to the male involved but could not prove a violation occurred because the female was not present, according to the male.
  • James Cunningham reported the theft of money from his wallet at 301 1/2 E. Lincoln Way.
  • An officer recovered a missing/stolen bicycle in the 300 block of N. Olive Street. The bike was reported missing Aug. 30, 2019.
  • A caller reported a dog left outside for hours in the rain with no shelter at 619 S. Olive St. An officer spoke to the owner of the animal about providing the animal with shelter during its time outside of his residence.
  • An officer assisted the Greene County Ambulance with a medical call in the 300 block of Greenewood Road.
  • A retail store reported catching two male juveniles stealing alcohol from 106 W. Washington St. Store employees stopped the boys from leaving the store until employees retrieved the stolen alcohol from them. Officers identified the two male juveniles from video footage, and charges are pending at this time.
  • Denise Moranville said she heard a noise while driving her 2017 Ford Edge near Lincoln Way and Elm Street. Moranville traveled home and noticed the rear window of the vehicle had been shattered by an unknown object. Damage to the window was estimated at $500.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
