A Celebration of Life for Kamdyn Hike, 12, of Perry will be held Monday, Sept. 2 in Pattee Park at 3 p.m. at the large shelter house. The seventh grader at the Perry Middle School died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2019, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Kamdyn is the son of Krystal Burkhart and William Hike of Perry.

Hundreds of friends and family members gathered at Mercy Medical Center Thursday afternoon for the Walk of Respect for Kamdyn, whose donated organs were immediately transplanted into four other patients in need and whose tissues will aid as many as 300 other people.

Kamdyn suffered an acute asthma attack early Monday from which he did not recover. His sudden death sent shock waves through the Perry schools and the wider community.

“There are no words to express how grateful I am for all the love and support,” Krystal Burkhart said Thursday. “Kamdyn will be missed so much!”

The Perry community is invited to attend Monday’s celebration of the short life and tragic death of Kamdyn Hike.
