Karen Sue Modlin Fouch peacefully went home to Jesus on Friday morning, June 2, 2017, surrounded by people who love her in the house where she was raised.

Graveside services for Karen will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 6 at Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry. A memorial fund has been established in Karen’s name and may be left or sent to Murdock Funeral Home.

Karen was born Aug. 21, 1952, and grew up just outside of Minburn, Iowa, on a farm with her parents, Lester and Lois (Peters) Modlin. She has two younger siblings, Jane and David.

In 1969 Karen married the love of her life, Jerry Fouch. They faithfully spent the next 47 years together, never leaving each other’s side. They raised four children, Lisa, Kelly, Zoe and Nathan and have seven grandchildren.

During their marriage, they experienced many adventures and lived in numerous places throughout the country until finally ending up on the farm where it all started.

Words cannot truly capture Karen’s beauty, both inside and out. After spending a few minutes with Karen, it was obvious she was someone special. She never met a stranger and once you met her, you quickly discovered she was impossible not to love.

She lived her life selflessly in joy, love and generosity. Those she worked with lovingly referred to her as “Mama K” and frequently relied on her steady voice and sage advice. No matter what was happening in her life, whatever the challenge, Karen always had a smile on her face and lit up every room she entered.

Karen touched countless lives and took every opportunity to help others, but the thing in this world that meant most was her family. She loved nothing more than being a mother and grandmother.

Our loss is heaven’s gain. She will be deeply missed, but take comfort knowing she is with her Lord and savior shining down on us.
