Keegan Kautzky of Des Moines celebrated his 35th birthday Thursday by attending the Gary Ernest Smith art event with his parents, Mary and Steve Kautzky of rural Perry. More than 100 people attended the lecture and tour of Smith’s paintings in the Hotel Pattee.

“Then we enjoyed papusas and horchata at El Buen Gusto,” said Mary Kautzky.

Perry native Keegan Kautzky is a 2000 Perry High School graduate and the current director of national education programs at the World Food Prize Foundation in Des Moines.

Kautzky delivered a lecture to PHS students in January about the moral duty of life and the obligation to care, learn and act.
