Ken Finer celebrates 86th birthday Friday at Perry Perk coffeehouse

Longtime Perry High School science instructor Ken Finer celebrated his 85th birthday Friday in the company of his fellow members of the Society of Retired Experts (SORE) at the Perry Perk coffeehouse.

Helping to mark Finer’s latest solar revolution were his fellow SORE members and other, including John Andorf, Larry Baak of Urbandale, Gary Becker, Jim Caufield, Brent Finer, Sue Finer, Ellen Finer Fisher, Jeff Fisher, Ray Harden, Lou Hoger, Don Ruggle, Joseph Shelly, Dan Spellman, Rich Wede and Rob Yelenick.

A choral ensemble from the Women of Wonder (WOW) coffee group was on hand to salute Finer with a stirring rendition of “Happy Birthday to You!” The singers were Cathy Clark, Shirley Ehlers, Lois Hoger, Elsie Mace, Connie McGuire and Myrna Whitehead.

Perry Perk owner Tari Mason, now in her 11th year as owner of the popular downtown coffeehouse, kept the celebrants fortified with fresh coffee and cinnamon rolls.
