Visitation for Kenneth Eugene Hastings will be held from 1-6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1 at Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson, with family present from 4-6 p.m. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 2 at the Jefferson First United Methodist Church.
Kenneth Eugene Hastings, son of Charles Almon Hastings and Isa Davis Hastings, was born May 9, 1929. He passed away Thursday, Nov. 25, 2021, at the age of 92.
He is survived by wife of 72 years, Pat Hastings of Jefferson; son, Steve (Mary) Hastings of Colorado Springs, Colorado; daughters, Joyce (Mick) Rings of Blacklick, Ohio, and Vicki (Dan) Taylor of Jefferson; sister, Kay Renwanz of Scranton; brother, Chuck (Dina) Hastings of Perry; as well as six grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a wealth of other family and friends.
Ken’s family and friends were most important to him.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father; as well as step-mother, Margaret Conroy; step-father, Harold Conroy; and sisters, Charlene Easley and Ruth Allen.
Ken farmed all throughout his life and was actively involved in his community. He served more than 40 years in numerous capacities with Greene County Rural Electric Cooperative, Central Iowa Power Cooperative, Midland Power and as Iowa’s representative to the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association Board in Washington, DC.
He was inducted into the Iowa Institute for Cooperatives Coop Hall of Fame. Midland Power honored Ken in June 2021 by naming their new substation near Jefferson as the Hastings Substation.
