Kentucky woman dies after broadsiding Peterbilt semi near Carroll

Tia Monique Newsome, 29, of Radcliff, Ky., died shortly before noon Monday when the vehicle she was driving struck a semi-tractor trailer on the outskirts of Carroll.

CARROLL, Iowa — A Kentucky woman was killed shortly before noon Monday when the vehicle she was driving struck a semi-tractor trailer on the outskirts of Carroll, according to a statement by the Iowa State Patrol (ISP).

Tia Monique Newsome, 29, of Radcliff, Ky., was traveling eastbound on 18th Street when she failed to stop for a stop sign and her 2007 Dodge Caliber struck the passenger side of a 2006 Peterbilt semi-tractor trailer that was traveling southbound on County Road N33 and driven by Cody Michael Farrell, 24, of Glidden.

Newsome’s vehicle came to rest in the west ditch of County Road N33. She was pronounced dead at the scene, the ISP report said.

Newsome was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. Farrell was not injured in the incident.

The Iowa Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Enforcement Agency and the Carroll Police Department also responded.
