Perry Police Officers, from left, Chief Eric Vaughn, Sgt. Jim Archer, Officer Caleb Wallace and Sgt. Matt Aswegan explained some of the tools of the law-enforcement trade to youngsters at the 2017 Perry Public Safety Day.

Perry-area youngsters will receive free, hands-on experience with tools of police officers, firefighters, ambulance paramedics and public works crews at the fourth annual Perry Public Safety Day, to be staged in the parking lot of the Perry Hy-Vee Saturday, Aug. 18 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

See where your hard-earned tax dollars go by inspecting a wide variety of public-service equipment, from ladder trucks and the Jaws of Life to police patrol cars and the Perry First Responders vehicle.

Life Flight is scheduled to fly in if they are not busy on a life-saving mission, and the Dallas County Sheriff is expected. Kids can have their picture taken with all the equipment and can sign their names on a Perry Public Works Department snow plow.

“This is a fun event that brings people here and shows them the important work done for the community by the Perry Public Safety Department,” said Larry Vodenik of Perry, Hy-Vee community event coordinator.

The event is free and open to the public.
