CARROLL — Kuemper Catholic used an early surge to escape Panorama, 5-3, in their Class 2A Region 3 softball contest July 7.

Panorama (11-19) plated a run in the top of the first, but Kuemper (23-13) struck for three runs in their half of the first before adding two more in the second to open a 5-1 lead. The Panthers scored once in the fourth and once again in the fifth, but could not complete the comeback.

Grace Richey pitched all seven innings for the visitors. She yielded five runs (four earne) on just four hits while walking two batters and hitting one. Richey finished with seven strikeouts.

Jazmyn Sellers had a double and a single for Panorama, with Lindy Nelson and Shey Storesund having two hits apiece while Jaidyn Sellers and Claire Woodworth each provided singles.

Nelson, Claire Woodworth, and Caitlin Sloss each had RBIs, with Nelson, Claire Woodworth, and Meredith Woodworth each scoring once.

The game was the final prep contest for Richey, Storesund, and Claire Woodworth, the starting pitcher, shortstop, and third baseman, respectively, for the Panthers.
