The first Lenten Fish Fry of the season, hosted by the Perry Knights of Columbus, attracted a big crowd Friday at the St. Patrick School Gym.

The start of the Lenten season and pleasant weather combined to create a large crowd Friday for the first of six Fish Fry dinners hosted by the Perry St. Jude Council 1243 of the Knights of Columbus.

The famous fried fish — the batter for which is a closely guarded secret — was a big hit, as was the more traditional baked fish. Shrimp was enjoyed by many as well.

In addition, diners were able to enjoy a variety of sides, including cole slaw, warm tortillos and toppings for fish tacos, baked potato, french fries and grilled cheese sandwiches. Coffee and drinks are also served, as are a variety of deserts provided by members of the St. Pat’s parish.

Dinners are served 5:30-7 p.m. at the St. Pat’s school gym, 1203 Fifth Street. Cost is $8 for adults, $4.50 for kids 10 and under, while families can dine for $25. Shrimp (4) are an additional $2, with deserts included in the regular price.

Proceeds help the KC’s provide scholarships and financially support a variety of parish needs. Dinners are served each Friday in Lent save Good Friday, which is April 10.
