BONDURANT — The girls basketball teams from Bondurant-Farrar and Perry met for the first time this season Jan. 12, with the later posting a 52-25 victory.
The two Raccoon River Conference teams have struggled since then, with each winning just once in their last six games, giving both teams hopes of snapping their respective skids when they meet Tuesday for a rematch.
Perry (8-12, 4-9) looked to assert their dominance early, racing to a 22-12 lead on the strength of eight quick points from Victoria Hegstrom and a pair of 3-pointers from Alyssa Kruger.
Mariah Duffy, Grace Marburger and Kruger each sank treys in the second quarter, but B-F (5-14, 3-10) managed to cut their deficit in half and entered the intermission trailing by five, down, 35-30, a far cry from the 28-8 halftime divide they faced in the first meeting.
Josie Kamman did not score in the Jan. 12 contest while Lizzy Trulson had just 15 points, but the duo were highly effective in the rematch, with Kamman scoring a game-high 22 points and Trulson 15, four of which allowed the hosts to enter the final eight minutes with a 47-44 lead.
Perry had finished off their win on their home floor with a 21-9 bulge in the final frame, but no such offensive burst was forthcoming Tuesday. A Taylor Lathrum free throw brought Perry to within three points, at 51-48, but the guests did not score again while the hosts put seven additional points in the board to secure the win.
Hegstrom and Lathrum had 10 points apiece for Perry, with Kruger adding nine points. Seven points from both Marburger and Emma Olejniczak and five from Duffy completed the Perry scoring list.
Perry will conclude their regular season Friday with a visit from Boone.
