More snow and ice are in store for the Perry area with the National Weather Service (NWS) office in Des Moines issuing a winter weather advisory in effect from 9 a.m. Thursday until midnight Thursday.

According to the NWS, a winter storm will move across the Great Plains Wednesday night and across the Upper Midwest beginning early Thursday morning through Thursday  evening.

Warmer air will be pulled into this system as it crosses Iowa Thursday. The result will be snow that first begins across the south and southwest part of the state early Thursday morning and spreads northward before transitioning to freezing rain or freezing drizzle across mainly central and southern portions of the state.

The NWS forecast predicts total snow accumulations of up to two inches across west central Iowa Thursday morning and one to two inches across northern Iowa Thursday evening.

In addition, ice accumulations between one-tenth and two-tenths of an inch are expected across the south Thursday morning and across central and northern Iowa Thursday afternoon and into Thursday evening.

The ice will result in difficult travel conditions. Motorists should be prepared for reduced visibilities at times, the NWS said.
