Perry public safety agents sought the cause of smoke Wednesday afternoon in the third-floor laundry facilities of the 30-unit apartment house on Iowa Street.

Officers of the Perry Police Department and the Perry Volunteer Fire Department responded to a report of a fire alarm and visible smoke Wednesday about 4:30 p.m. at the Quail Run Apartments at 2902 Iowa St. in Perry.

The source of the smoke in the third-floor laundry facilities is unknown at this hour. Firefighters set up fans to clear the structure of smoke while they sought the cause of the alarm.

There were no injuries in the incident, which is under investigation.

Brandi Valdez of Perry, a resident in the 30-unit apartment complex, said fire alarms are frequent at the 18-year-old building, and occupants seldom vacate their apartments when they fire alarm sounds.

“We need to have a fire drill,” she said, “so people know to leave when they alarms go off. They just ignore it.”
