Laura Smith, 91, of Perry passed away Thursday, March 9, 2017, at the Dallas County Hospital in Perry, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 14 at 10 a.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home in Perry. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 14 for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Dallas Township Cemetery near Dawson. Memorials will be given to family and may be left at the Carris Family Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent at www.carrisfuneralhome.com.
Laura Luella Smith was born Feb. 2, 1926, at Tama County, Iowa, to Emery Ellsworth and Mable Mae (Ballhorn) Stull.
She was united in marriage to Ray Douglas Smith in Missouri Aug. 7, 1957.
She worked at the Rowley Masonic Community and as a bartender at Ken and Tootse’s in Dawson.
Laura attended church services at the Perry Lutheran Home.
She loved gardening, sewing, needlepoint, adult coloring books, puzzles, camping, fishing and mushroom hunting.
While she lived at the Lutheran Home, she enjoyed delivering the mail to the residents and was active in the activities there.
Laura was preceded in death by her husbands, Hans Freez and Ray Douglas Smith; parents, Emery and Mable Stull; and four brothers, Melvin, Duane, Harlan and Lauren Stull.
She is survived by her two sisters, Gilberta Heithoff of Ogden and Colleen Hjerleid of Decorah; a niece, Heidi Riehl of Dawson; and great-nephews, Max and Mason Chapin.
