Laurie Ann McGilvrey, 55, of Grimes passed away at her home surrounded by family on March 6, 2019. A celebration of life will be held at a later date, with interment at the Ellston Cemetery in Ellston, Iowa.
Laurie was born Nov. 17, 1963, in Mount Ayr, Iowa, to John Bennett and Lois Maxine Jones McGilvrey.
She attended Woodward-Granger school, where she graduated in 1982.
In 1985 Laurie began serving in the military and received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army in 1987. She trained as a licensed practical nurse at Fort Sam Houston Hospital in San Antonio, Texas, before going to Korea for a year. Upon her return to the states, Laurie was stationed at Fort Lewis in Tacoma, Wash.
Laurie continued living in Tacoma for several years before returning to the Woodward area.
During her LPN career, Laurie enjoyed taking care of pediatric and geriatric patients in the Des Moines area. She had a kind heart and was a strong advocate for her patients.
Laurie is preceded in death by her grandparents.
Survivors include her sons, Anthony John (Jenny) McGilvrey of Newton and Nathanial Walter (Kylie) Burlingame of Tacoma, Wash.; grandsons, Keagin Simmer and Maxwell Burlingame; sister, Stephanie Davis of Woodward; brother, John Charles McGilvrey of Lorton, Va.; nephew, Tristan; and niece, Taryn; along with aunts, uncles and many cousins.
