Lawrence Lehnhoff was born May 3, 1947, in Worthington, Minn.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 19. Lawrence served on the U.S.S. Robison during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged April 10, 1970.

He was united in marriage with Jeanine Vierstraete, and they were parents of three children, Chad, Jeremy and Kiley. They were divorced 10 years later.

On July 3, 1984, he married Susan Corrigan and her children, Kathy, Kerry, and Kris. The couple’s families were blended, and in 1985 they were joined by the birth of a son, Kurtis.

Over 30 years, Lawrence drove truck for Meadow Gold, Archway Bakery, Marty Terrill and others. Being a hard-working man, on the side he provided auto body repair and mechanics in his shop in Dawson and other locations.

Lawrence was a very strong, determined man who enjoyed fishing and camping but most of all loved his family, spending time with his grandchildren.

Just days ago, on July 3, Lawrence and Susan celebrated 33 years of marriage.

Lawrence died July 6, 2017, at the VA Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, after a courageous battle with prostate cancer.

Visitation was held Sunday, July 9 at Hastings Funeral Home, with the family present from 5-8 p.m. Services were held Monday July 10 at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry.

Words of Comfort were provided by the Rev. Michael Walrod of De Soto. Casket bearers were Dylan Davis, Adam Ramirez, Gavin Macias, Thomas Corrigan, Trevor Clark and Joe Lehnhoff. Honorary Casket Bearers were Dennis Vanomhy, Tim Collier, Larry Olson, James Noel, Larry Johnston and Marty Terrill.

Interment was at the Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry. Military rites were provided by U.S. Navy Military Honors, American Legion Post 85 and VFW Post 506. Taps was played by Dylan Davis.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Elizabeth; his step-mother, Nora; “adopted parents,” Walter and Arloene Olsen; daughter, Kathy Corrigan-Macias; infant grandson, Antonio Ramirez; and sister, Lorraine Sarmiento.

He will be always in the hearts of his wife, Susan, of Perry; children, Chad Lehnhoff of Grand Junction, Jeremy Lehnhoff of Texas, Kiley (John) Davis of Grand Junction, Kerry (Rajaa) Corrigan of Perry, Kris (Megan) Corrigan of Perry and Kurt (Tim) Lehnhoff of Perry; 19 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four brothers, Kenny (Lisa) Lehnhoff, Jerry Moffit; Clifford Moffit and Larry (Dee) Olsen; four sister, Franny Lehnhoff, Pauline (Louis) Moore, Marilyn (Deke) Gliem and Elaine McGilvrey; nieces; nephews, other relatives; and many friends.
