Leo Nervig, 89, formerly of rural Kelley, passed away Oct. 3, 2017 at the Perry Lutheran Home in Perry.

Leo Duane Nervig was born Feb. 19, 1928, to James and Rhoda (Saveraid) Nervig.

He attended school in Sheldahl and married Sylvia Helgeland Feb. 23, 1951. They farmed north of Slater until moving to Perry three years ago due to failing health.

Leo will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a lifetime farmer and a selfless provider, a generous and fun-loving friend who enjoyed playing pool “with the boys” (who all had nicknames whether they knew it or not), his horses and motorcycle, Snicker Blizzards, Nibs black licorice and watching “Gunsmoke.”

He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

Left to cherish his memory are two daughters, Connie (Bruce) Gardner of rural Madrid and Kim (Jon) Peters of Perry; four grandchildren, Jared (Kellie) Gardner, Sara (Jeffery) Meadows, Kristie (Justin) Schaul and Kelsey (Scott) Hughes; great-grandchildren, Kayla and Jace Meadows, Finley and Reese Schaul and Ellie, Kilee and Ray Hughes.

Leo was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia, this past May; his parents; an infant daughter and grandson; a sister, Leora Carlson; and brother, Donald Nervig; along with many other relatives and close friends.

The family will receive friends Oct. 11 from 1-3 p.m. at Soderstrum Funeral Home, 312 Main St. in Slater. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Perry Lutheran Home. Online condolences may be left at adamssoderstrum.com
