To the editor:
Last evening I was informed that the grave-marker flags had been placed at each veteran’s grave at Violet Hill Cemetery earlier in the day.
I made several telephone calls last week, offering both the VFW and Legion personnel’s assistance in distributing the flags. Sadly, I received no return calls.
Last year, both organizations were represented and shared a “special camaraderie” both with each other and those we honored. We concentrated on the east side of Violet Hill and with careful “recon” accomplished the task in about two hours.
It is my sincere hope that next year our veterans’ organizations will be invited to participate. How we honor our fallen comrades is a true marker of our character.
