To the editor:

My name is Erin Holmes, and I am running as a write-in candidate for a seat on the Perry
School Board.

I am a longtime resident of Perry and a 2005 graduate of Perry High School. My husband, Matt, a 2004 PHS graduate, and I reside in Perry with our two boys, Tucker, 5, and Thayer, 1. Tucker is a student at Perry Elementary School this school year, and I teach second grade in a neighboring school district.

I am seeking election for a handful of reasons:

  • I have a child going through the school system and, like many parents, I want the very best for him and his peers.
  • I am a classroom teacher, and I understand firsthand what our teachers and support staff are faced with each day in the classroom. I want to ensure they are receiving the funding and support they need.
  • I understand the importance of having school board members who are willing to listen to and advocate for school employees. I would be honored to advocate for all PCSD staff.
  • I believe teachers have a right to a master contract that outlines their job description, working hours, salary schedule and sick leave, among other things.

I believe in Perry Schools. I’m a product of Perry Schools, and my children will be as well. I know we can be better, and I believe I have the leadership skills to move us in the right direction.

I would appreciate your vote Tuesday, Nov. 5. Write in Erin Holmes. Together we can support our students and teachers and move our district in a positive direction.
