To the editor:

On this day one year ago, George Floyd was murdered in broad daylight by a police officer. Most of us have seen the video, and we all know exactly how brutal and inhumane his death was.

His death sparked protests across the nation and globe, and together we all chanted “BLACK. LIVES. MATTER.” His death sparked a lot of important conversation, a conversation that was needed but a conversation that came at a cost that is far too high.

Today, take a moment to think about George’s legacy, family and loved ones. While justice was served in the court of law, it is justice that should have never been needed.

These are conversations we must continue to have, and we must work every day to make real change happen so that Black Americans can feel and be safe.
