To the editor:
As a huge animal lover and resident of the best state in the country, I am saddened to see Iowa ranked as one of the worst states for puppy mills.
Fifteen Iowa dog breeders were named to the Humane Society’s Horrible Hundred list. Just
last month, 46 dogs were rescued from a horrific puppy mill operation in Boone County.
U.S. Rep. Zach Nunn has accompanied me on tours at the Animal Rescue League of
Iowa in order to fully comprehend the importance of animals in our lives.
As a mother, healthcare professional and community leader, I have been positively impacted by animals in nearly every aspect of my life. Animals improve family life by instilling responsibility in children. They create more active lifestyles, and they improve loneliness with the elderly.
As a dad of six kids and one cat, Zach Nunn fully understands that pets are family. He is fighting to end animal cruelty and hold those who wish to harm pets accountable. There is documented research showing that those who intentionally harm a pet are more likely to harm a child in the future.
Animal abuse and cruelty must stop in our state. Zach Nunn is leading here in Iowa and on into Washington, D.C.
