To the editor:

On Dec. 6 residents of the Perry Community School District will be voting to renew the current Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL) at the McCreary Community Building from 7 a.m. and 8 p.m.

This is not a new tax. It is simply renewing one that has been in place.

Money raised with PPEL can only be used for facilities, equipment and technology. It enables the district to improve safety in our schools, upgrade the athletic and performing arts facilities, maintain all the buildings and purchase buses.

In the past, these funds have been used to replace the Middle School and High School boilers, replace heat pumps at the elementary, make repairs to the roofs, install new lockers and sidewalks, and purchase risers for the Perry Performing Arts Center, band instruments, laptops for students and playground equipment.

Voting to renew PPEL will provide the Perry schools with $3 million to $4 million dollars over the next 10 years to help continue with projects that enhance the education and safety of our students. It will also free up dollars from the general fund for salaries for all school personnel.

As you can tell, this vote is very important to the students, school district and community of Perry. Please vote to renew the levy on Dec. 6.

If you are not a resident of the Perry Community School District but have friends who are, please share this letter with them, and encourage them to vote Yes on renewing PPEL.
