To the editor:

Our 19th annual Free Community Christmas Dinner is coming around very soon, Wednesday, Dec. 25.

Dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. or 2 p.m. at the Perry Elks Lodge at 2823 Willis Ave. The Elks donate their building for the event, and we appreciate them very much.

This dinner is put on by businesses and individuals from our community, donating products and time. Last year we served around 400 meals.

Mark your calendar now and plan to come early. We also deliver. You can place a delivery order by calling the 515-465-3791 on Dec. 25 after 10 a.m. A large order for take-out or delivery should be called in early if possible.

This year’s dinner will be ham, pork loin, turkey and dressing, homemade mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole, salad, rolls, dessert and cookies to go. It will be a delicious meal to share with us and each other.

This is a free dinner, but donations will be accepted. All donations go to Perry Food pantry.

Volunteers are also needed. We need 15 volunteers for morning shift from 9:30 a.m. to noon and another 15 for afternoon shift from noon to 2:30 p.m. or 3 p.m. To volunteer, please call 515-465-3740. These positions will fill fast.

We also need cookies to fill goodie bags to take with you. Drop off cookies at the Elks on Dec. 24 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. or on Dec. 25 before 10 a.m. No need to call. We also need candy for the tables. This can be delivered to 1802 Sixth St.

Please join us and celebrate all we have overcome during this tough year for Perry. We are all in this together and must lift each other up. Sharing over a Christmas meal with our friends and neighbors is what Christmas is all about. Blessings and gratefulness.
