To the editor:
I am writing this letter because I first would like to thank you for your donations to the Perry Police Department Shop with a Cop Program or encourage you to donate for the first time to the Perry Police Department Shop with a Cop Program.
With the total amount of donations obtained last year, we were able to help more than 40 families from Perry and the surrounding area through Shop with a Cop, our stocking cap and glove program for kids and our food gift card program, in which officers gave gift cards to families in need in the community.
The Shop with a Cop Program provides $150 dollars to each family selected. A child from each family is taken shopping in Perry to purchase Christmas for their families. The children must purchase something for everyone in their family, and then they can purchase something for themselves.
All of the presents are then brought back the Perry Elementary School and wrapped for Christmas morning, with the assistance of our volunteers.
Thanks to other donations from the community, the families are also sent home with all the items needed to have great Christmas dinner together. The Shop with a Cop Program promotes family and spending time with your family during the holidays.
It is once again that time of year, and we are asking you to please donate to this good cause. We will be taking the kids shopping Dec. 17, so please send your contribution to:
