Jesus said, "But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea." Matthew 18:6

To the editor:

I have seen the post for the Latino Festival, and the Facebook comments I have been seeing make me extremely concerned about this.

I wonder whether it’s a good idea to have the Latino Festival or whether there is going to be violence going on there due to what has been happening lately with immigration and all with what Trump has done lately.

I am just concerned here for everyone’s welfare and especially the children who will be at this festival.

  1. I myself am extremely worried about this also. I have always attended the festival. As a matter of fact, I was chair person at the 2000 and 2001 festivals. But at this point and after reading the comments made, I don’t think I want my child subject to that hatred. I’m scared for her, so I don’t think that we will be attending the festival this year, and that makes me extremely sad.

  2. Absolutely no need to worry! This immigration thing has been going on for years. It’s only been a big deal because of the person who talks about it. The thing is the immigrants in Perry know this and have dealt with this a long time. The only ones who seem to be crazy about it are the people who think they all of a sudden need to be a voice for immigrants. I see immigrants everyday, and I don’t even think about it. They are not immigrants but an important part of the community. I really hope this rhetoric from all sides of the political arena won’t spill over to Perry. If anyone tries anything like violence, I’m pretty sure the majority of this town will stand with the community.
