COUNCIL BLUFFS — Second-ranked Lewis Central wasted little time in seizing control of Monday’s Class 2A Substate 2 Final with visiting Perry. The Titans (13-3) scored twice in the first three minutes and added another goal five minutes later en route to a 9-0 whitewashing of the Jayettes (10-7).

The hosts added goals in the 20th, 23rd, 27th and 35th minutes of the first half to lead, 7-0, at the intermission. Two second-half goals provided the final margin.

Amparo Menendez had seven saves for Perry, with Carly Anderson playing the second half in goal and stopping 10 shots. Perry’s offense was statistically absent, as the visitors did not record a shot on goal.

The loss ends the second 10-win season in three years for the Jayettes and was a marked improvement over 2015’s 6-11 record. The senior class will leave as winners, as Perry finished a combined 35-34 in their four years.

Menendez and Mariah Duffy had their prep careers end with the loss, as did Grace Arganbright, KC Gafkjen and Angela Martinez, who spent four years making 45-mile round trips between Panora and Perry as part of a sharing agreement between the two schools.
