A Linden man was arrested Tuesday and charged with sexual abuse against a victim 5 years old at the time of the alleged abuse in 2014.

John Alan Hillgren, 35, of Linden was arrested Tuesday by the Des Moines Police Department on a Stuart Police Department warrant on a charge of second-degree sexual abuse.

The arrest followed a three-month investigation by the Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS) and the Stuart Police Department. The now-10-year-old victim first reported the alleged abuse May 31 in an interview at the Blank Children’s Hospital Support Teams for Achieving Resiliency Center in Des Moines.

Hillgren allegedly sexually molested the child at a residence in Stuart. An Iowa DHS social worker conducted several interviews with the victim, the victim’s therapist and a number of family members as part of the investigation and “determined the allegation of sexual abuse in the second degree was founded,” according to court records.

Hillgren was released Tuesday from the Guthrie County Jail after posting a $100,000 bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Guthrie County District Court Sept. 19.
