URBANDALE — Powerful teams from Des Moines Christian claimed a pair of conference wins over visiting Woodward-Granger Friday, with the Lion boys posting a 67-35 win while the DMC girls produced a jarring 57-8 win over W-G.
DMC moved to 16-2 overall and 13-1 in WCAC play with the boys victory, with W-G dropping to 5-13, 4-10. The second-ranked Lion girls improved to 17-3, 13-1, with the Hawks falling to 4-14, 4-10.
W-G trailed, 29-17, at the intermission of the nightcap. Any hopes of a comeback were erased by a 19-6 third quarter which lifted the hosts into a 53-23 lead en route to the win.
Carter Moran led W-G with nine points. Brody and Collin Nardini each had five points and Trevor Simmons four, with Walker Deputy and Coby Peters each scoring three points. Dylan Backe and Worth Henry each scored two points, as did senior Dan Hamell.
Simmons had six rebounds and five steals for the guests, with Backe distributing five assists.
Adam Witty had 20 points and seven rebounds, and Ben Loverude had 20 points and five rebounds for DMC.
The DMC girls led the opener, 17-0, after one quarter and entered the intermission holding a 34-3 lead, with the score moving to 49-3 entering the final period.
Moriah Prewitt had 18 points for DMC, with Kaitlyn Munn adding 12.
