GRANGER — Des Moines Christian exploded for five first-inning runs, then added seven more in the sixth to fuel a 15-4 win over Woodward-Granger in WCC baseball Friday.
The Lions (12-6, 8-3) pounded out 10 hits in the win but were aided by five walks and several crucial errors from the Hawks (9-6, 8-3) which accounted for 11 unearned runs.
Jackson Larson was chased after retiring just two batters. He yielded three runs and three walks, with five unearned DMC runs scoring against him. Reese Jamison was touched for four runs (one earned) in 4.2 innings of work during which time he allowed two hits and two walks. Dillon Fogarty threw 1.2 innings of two-hit ball, but DMC added three unearned runs against him while Bryce Achenbach allowed three earned runs on three hits on the hill. Jamison finished with five strikeouts, with Larson and Fogarty each tallying one strikeout.
Marcus McConahay had two hits and stole three bases while scoring once, with Larson driving in two runs with a double while Brady Aunspach had a double, a steal and scored twice while driving in a run. Race Brant had a single and a run scored, with Austin Scharlau stealing a base.
W-G hosts Ogden Monday before a rematch at DMC Tuesday and a doubleheader Thursday in Stuart against West Central Valley.
