Lions scratch out win over host Jayettes

Perry's Cris Gomez turns a Bondurant-Farrar player as Jayette teammate Jazmin Hernandez (13) watches April 16 at Dewey Field.

Visiting Des Moines Christian scored 105 seconds into the second half Monday for the only goal of a 1-0 non-conference girls soccer match with Perry at Dewey Field.

Perry (4-5) was unable to maintain a steady attack against the DMC (6-2) defense, with Lions goalie Ashley Van Heukelom making five saves.

Jayette goalie Carly Anderson turned aside five shots as well, but Megan Miller was able to find the net in the 41st minute, with Alex Reeder assisting on the lone score of the contest.

The Perry junior varsity also fell by a 1-0 score. Angela Vargas had two shots on the goal for the hosts, with Britney Rivera making two saves.

Perry returns to action Friday with a trip to Newton for a non-conference match. The Cardinals topped visiting Perry, 1-0, in tournament play April 13.
