WOODWARD — Des Moines Christian escaped host Woodward-Granger with a pair of one-run wins in WCAC softball Thursday.

The Lions (4-9, 4-3) were 7-6 winners in the first game before edging the Hawks (5-10, 3-8), 5-4, in the nightcap.

W-G was the visitor in the opener and fell into a 4-0 hole after two innings. They closed to within 4-2, only to have DMC open a 7-2 lead after three frames. A two-run fifth narrowed the gap to 7-4, with two tallies in the seventh bringing the hosts to within run. Unfortunately they could not plate a tying tally and fell.

Rian Jamison suffered the loss in the circle. She allowed seven runs (five earned) on 13 hits. Her stat line included two walks, a hit batter and two strikeouts.

Katelyn Bandstra had a double, a single and two RBIs for W-G, with Brylee Bice, Chloe Houge, Emma Anderson and Audrey Simmons adding hits. Simmons drove in a run, with Anderson scoring three times.

Audrey Klein was the winner, yielding six runs (three earned) on six hits, a walk and a hit batsman while striking out 12.

Emily Turnquist had three singles to lead the Lion charge.

The hosts held a 4-1 lead after three innings of the second game, with single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh forcing extra innings. DMC scored once in the eighth and then held on to snatch away the victory.

Macy Chittenden surrendered four runs on five hits and eight walks to gain the win.

Kaleigh Friend had three singles, a double and two RBIs, with Emma Wilson driving in three runs on a trio of hits.

Jamison allowed five runs (two were unearned) on four walks and 12 hits while striking out one.

Anderson and Bandstra had two hits apiece, with Jamison smacking a solo home run and adding a single. Houge had a double, walked twice and drove in two, with Bice tallying a base hit.
