Little trouble for Panorama hoopsters against WCV

PANORA, Iowa — Host Panorama was little troubled by a visit from WCAC foe West Central Valley Tuesday, with the hosts claiming both ends of their conference set by comfortable margins.

The Panther girls improved to 14-1 overall and 10-0 in league play with a 61-21 victory, with the hosts posting a 58-45 win in the boys game.

Panorama jumped to a large lead quickly, having an advantage of 16-8 after one quarter and of 40-11 at the half. By the end of the third stanza the Panthers held a 55-13 lead over the Wildcats (6-8, 3-7).

While the Panthers misfired on all nine of their 3-point shots they were excellent at the foul line, sinking 15-of-18.

Jaidyn Sellers led the home team with 16 points, with Payton Beckman adding 13 points. Angel Poldberg and Laci Rishel scored 12 points apiece, with Mia Waddle and Zoey Hambleton scoring four points apiece.

Sellers rounded out a strong game with 13 rebounds, with Rishel having six assists and five steals.

Panorama (10-4, 7-2) jumped to leads of 18-9 after one quarter and of 38-15 after two against the WCV boys (3-11, 0-8). The Panthers led, 49-26, after three quarters, with the Wildcats making the final score closer by outscoring their hosts 19-9 over the final eight minutes.

Eleven different Panther players entered the scorebook, some of them for the first time this season.

Brice Taylor led the way with 13 points, with Skyler Poldberg adding 12. Jared Wasson and Austin Block had six points apiece and Braedon Draper five points, with Braylon Dawes adding four. Josh Van Winkle and Jackson Peasley both had three points, with Avery Norman, Ethan Olsen and Klayton Bremer all scoring two points apiece.

Wasson pulled down eight rebounds and Draper seven, with Norman and Poldberg having six caroms apiece.

Seniors on the girls team for Panorama were honored before Tuesday’s game, with Beckman, Poldberg, Rishel and Gabby Wellburg saluted for their dedication to the program.

Panorama will play girls/boys sets at AC/GC Friday and against visiting Martensdale-St. Marys Tuesday. The Panther girls host Exira/Elk Horn-Kimballton Jan. 27, with the Panther boys traveling to face the Woodward Academy (game held in W-G middle school gym).
