Perry native Elizabeth Hix was sworn in Tuesday morning as the new Perry City Clerk, receiving the baton passed by outgoing City Clerk Paula Rychnovsky.

After graduating from Perry High School, Hix earned a degree in accounting and financial services from AIB College of Business. She has worked as a full-time accountant for a number of years at Van Wall Equipment near Perry.

Hix has served several terms as an appointee to the Perry Airport Commission, and she sought elected office when she ran for an at-large seat on the Perry City Council in 2017.

Now she will see the inner workings of municipal government from the clerk’s office, with the retirement of Rychnovsky after 19 years working for the city of Perry and some 30 years in total of public service.

Hix was sworn into office by Perry Mayor John Andorf at Tuesday morning’s special meeting of the Perry City Council to close out the books on fiscal year.

“I feel very fortunate to be able to work and live in the same community where I have the opportunities to be involved,” Hix said. “As I continue to strive for Perry Pride, I hope others in the community will join me.”

The next meeting of the Perry City Council is Monday, July 20 at 6 p.m. in the Clarion Room of the Security Bank Building at 1102 Willis Ave.
