Elizabeth Ann Swift was born Oct. 20, 1958, in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph LeRoy and Judith Catherine (Crawford) Swift, and she passed away Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021, at the Mercy One Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Liz grew up in Des Moines until moving with her family to Perry in 1975.

She graduated from Perry High School in 1977.

She married the love of her life, Jared James Hoffbeck, in Perry at St. Patrick Catholic Church Jan. 3, 2009.

Liz worked as an administrative assistant for the Iowa Department of Human Services for 35 years, where she helped countless people and made many friends.

Liz had an infectious laugh and a smile that brightened everyone’s day. She loved the simple yet most important parts of life. She enjoyed playing with her grandchildren, sitting outside with Jared drinking a cocktail, having her special dog, Hank, on her lap, spending time with her sons and daughters-in-law, and taking countless trips with her sisters and brother.

Clear Lake was a special place to her.

Liz loved deeply, and her family was everything to her. She ended every conversation with “I love you more.” She didn’t just say it. She showed it every day. We will miss her goofiness, laugh and love.

Survivors include her husband, Jared Hoffbeck; sons, Andy (Mary) Carlson and Adam (Nicole) Carlson; grandchildren, Landon, Sophia, Leyton, Asher, Aidan, Addison, Evan, Hailey and Olivia; mother, Judy Swift; brother, Dan (Erin) Swift; sisters, Becky Walton, Jennifer (David) Smith, Nancy Hager, Mary Pat King, Kate (Rich) Bedont, Chris (Ken) Rush and Sandy Juergens; and nieces and nephews.
