Funeral services for Lloyd Miller, 91, of Perry will be at 11 a.m. on Dec. 6. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Minburn, Iowa.
Lloyd’s earthly journey came to an end on Nov. 27, 2024, in Perry, Iowa.
Lloyd Albert Miller was born March 23, 1933, in rural Story County near Ames, Iowa, to Henry and Eva (Brooks) Miller.
He grew up on a farm south of Ames and graduated from Huxley High School in 1951.
Lloyd joined the U.S. Navy in 1952 and served on the USS Chipola until 1954.
He married Marilyn Shirley on June 2, 1956, and together they enjoyed 64 years of marriage.
In 1959, living and farming in Bouton, Iowa, they had their first child, Tony. After moving to Boulder, Colorado, they had their second son, Scott and daughter Melanie.
There Lloyd worked at the Boulder Fire Department and at an electric motor shop.
Lloyd later moved his family to Niwot, Colorado, where he took up his passion of farming again and also continued working as a firefighter in Boulder. After 20 years of firefighting, he worked at Colorado University in Boulder.
In his later years, Lloyd could often be found painting ceramic figurines to decorate their house and give to friends and family. He also enjoyed cracking black walnuts to share with others.
After living in Colorado for 40 years, Lloyd and Marilyn moved back to Iowa onto the Shirley family farm. They enjoyed the time in Iowa, reconnecting and being among family.
Lloyd was known to others as a joker. He was quick to crack a joke or tell a story to make you laugh. Even the workers at Spring Valley Assisted Living were treated with Lloyd’s humor daily.
Everyone who met Lloyd knew him to be honest, hard working and loyal. He loved his wife and family fiercely.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Eva Miller; siblings, Marvin and Marilyn; his wife, Marilyn, and daughter, Melanie.
He is survived by his sons, Tony (Christy) Miller of Greeley, Colorado, and Scott (Shelley) Miller of Thornton, Colorado; and son-in-law, Colin Frantz of Churdan; sister-in-law, Gloria Renshaw; grandchildren, Kayla (Paul) Ruiz, Michael Miller, Shana (Michael) Shaeffer, Shane Miller and Matthew Miller, all of Colorado; and one great-granddaughter, Haylee Shaeffer, also of Colorado.
