The McDonald’s restaurant in Perry made a $1,000 donation Thursday to the Perry High School Instrumental Music Department.

Steven Jacobson, manager of the Perry McDonald’s, and Dawn Rath, McDonald’s area supervisor, presented the donation check to PHS Instrumental Music Director Rachel Poss and the gathered student musicians in a brief ceremony in the band room.

Poss said the McDonald’s money will go into the general band fund, which is used for instruments, uniforms and other equipment needs.

“Being a new director to Perry, I’m so grateful to be welcomed by a donation from a local establishment,” Poss said. “The money will give our marching band budget a boost for next year!”

Jacobson said McDonald’s customers who used the store’s new kiosk ordering system helped accomplish the donation. He said the promotion led to a 35% increase in the use of the kiosks.

Rath said Cara Van Steenis, the owner and operator of the Perry store and others, has a longstanding passion for high school band music and regularly supports school district band programs.
