May 13, 2019

  • An officer removed a junk vehicle out of Veterans Square at the request of the owner.
  • An officer followed up on a juvenile case reported over the weekend that occurred six years ago in Madrid.
  • An officer received a complaint about a downtown business owner painting over a handicapped symbol on a city street. The complainant also said the merchant cut the city concrete before getting permission from the Madrid City Council. An officer will talk to the merchant about getting the paint removed and to stop any work until it is addressed by the council in a public meeting.
  • An officer assisted the Madrid Fire/Rescue on an emergency medical call in the 300 block of N. Locust Street.
  • An officer took a report of items stolen from a vehicle over the weekend in the 600 block of Brodie Lane.
  • An officer followed up on a junk vehicle that was served a final notice last week for removal in the 600 block of S. Green Street. The owner had removed the vehicle.

May 14, 2019

  • An officer followed up on a junk vehicle that was served in the 500 block of E. Seventh Street. The vehicle had been removed by the owner.
  • An officer left a business card on a door in the 300 block of E. Second Street regarding a vehicle sitting on the property for an extended period of time.
  • An officer received a call from a Boone County resident just west of the city limits of Madrid, reporting she received a scam call that claimed she had a warrant for her arrest. The caller said she knew it was a scam and did not give any information.
  • An officer attempted to contact the owner of two long-parked vehicles who lives in Luther but without success. The officer will contact him and ask him to remove both vehicles.
  • An officer performed a vehicle unlock on Fairview Drive.
  • An officer received a complaint of a reckless driver on Iowa Highway 17. The officer made contact with the driver, who was tired and pulled into a parking lot to rest before continuing on.
  • An officer received a complaint from the Boone County EMS about a vehicle tailgating the ambulance while traveling into Madrid. The officer met with the driver, and it was determined she did not have a valid driver’s license. The driver was issued a citation for the infraction.
  • An officer stopped a vehicle in the 200 block of S. State Street. The driver, Loni Yarges of Des Moines, was determined to be wanted out of southern Iowa on probation warrants and was driving on a suspended driver’s license. The agency issuing the warrants would not extradite the subject from Boone County. Yarges was issued a citation for driving while suspended and released from custody.
  • An officer spoke to a juvenile and a parent regarding harassing messages on social media. The officer will follow up with the suspect.
  • An officer assisted with a welfare check requested by an out-of-town family member on a person living in Madrid. The person was located, and everything checked out okay.
  • An officer spoke to someone regarding a past theft reported to Madrid Police Department.
  • An officer spoke to two juveniles driving a utility vehicle through town. The officer advised on proper speed limit for UTVs while travelling on the roadways. The juveniles agreed to watch their speed more carefully.

May 15, 2019

  • An officer followed up on a property owner in the 900 block of S. Kennedy Avenue regarding a large pile of debris on the property. The land is scheduled for clean up this week. The officer will follow up Monday to make sure it is completed.
  • An officer returned a phone call to someone with questions regarding activity at a neighboring residence.

May 16, 2019

  • An officer received a complaint about a yard that needs mowed in the 500 block of W. Second Street. The complaint came via a Madrid City Council member. The officer stopped, but the property owner was not home. The officer left a business card on the door for the owner to mow and spoke to the owner later in the day. The owner said her mower was broken, but she will have it fixed and mow this weekend.
  • An officer spoke to the owner of an abandoned house at 22nd and Main streets about its condition. The owner said that the property was going to be demolished next week.
  • An officer spoke to the owner of a junk vehicle served in the 100 block of S. Market Street. The owner requested the vehicle be removed. The officer added it to the list.
  • An officer spoke to a business owner in the 600 block of S. Kennedy Avenue regarding a junk vehicle. The owner requested that it be removed. The officer added it to the list.
  • An officer was dispatched to the 200 block of S. State Street for a family disturbance. The officer spoke to both brothers and mother, settled down the situation and separated the subjects.
  • An officer assisted with a non-emergent medical call on N. Water Street.

May 17, 2019

  • An officer was dispatched to a local business for a counterfeit bill.
  • An officer spoke to a retail store staff member regarding a juvenile shoplifter from yesterday. The officer was given a name of the person, and the staff member stated that he and his father came back in and paid for it. The manager wanted the juvenile and father told that the juvenile was not allowed back in the store without a parent with him.
  • An officer met with a Madrid resident regarding a vehicle key fob. The item can be claimed at the Madrid Police Department.
  • An officer followed up on a long-parked vehicle at a local business. The owner was contacted and said he would be getting a tow truck early next week to remove the vehicle.
  • An officer issued a no-trespassing warning to Logan Stripe of rural Madrid due to his involvement with a disturbance there last week.
  • An officer performed a vehicle unlock.
  • An officer spoke to a Madrid resident regarding a harassment issue between family members.
  • An officer unlocked a vehicle on W. Fifth Street.
  • An officer followed up with a local business regarding an investigation.
  • An officer assisted with a medical call on Fairview Drive.

May 18, 2019

  • An officer assisted storage unit renters in getting into their unit after they lost the key.
  • An officer picked up a found bag from the trail head parking area and returned it to its owner.
  • An officer unlocked a vehicle on W. Fifth Street.
  • Officers responded to Zook Spur Road on the report of a downed plane. It was determined that it was a planned military exercise.

May 19, 2019

  • An officer received a report of on erratic driver southbound on Iowa Highway 17 from Luther. The officer located the vehicle, and the driver was issued a citation for failure to have a valid driver’s license. The officer permitted a passenger in the vehicle, who had a valid driver’s license, to drive the vehicle away.
  • An officer unlocked a vehicle in the 600 block of S. Main Street.
  • An officer responded to the 300 block of E. Third Street after witnessing fireworks going off in the neighborhood. The officer advised the homeowner to stop immediately or be cited.

May 21, 2019

  • An officer received information regarding several juveniles consuming alcohol during the past weekend. The officer spoke to several juveniles and parents regarding the incident. An investigation is ongoing.

May 22, 2019

  • An officer received information regarding someone at a residence who has a no-contact order and is in the company of the protected party. The officer made contact with the initiating agency regarding the order and spoke to one of the parties regarding the complaint. It was determined there was no violation as the offending party was not present.
  • An officer spoke to a juvenile regarding a driving infraction that occurred as the juvenile was navigating a corner in an unsafe manner. The driver agreed it was unsafe and to correct the issue.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
