Madrid Police Report November 4-10

November 4, 2019

  • An officer was dispatched to the 600 block of N. Kennedy Avenue for a fire alarm that turned out to be a false alarm.
  • An officer was called to the Madrid city shed by the Madrid Street Department for a dog running at large. The animal was captured, and its image was posted online after a call was made to the Boone County Humane Society. The officer was able to locate the owner and met the owner at the City Shed, where the owner picked up the dog.
  • An officer spoke to a county resident about two large dogs running by the Madrid City Dump and around that area. One person was able to catch them and called the owner’s number that was on the tags. The owner also lived in the county.
  • Officers conducted several interviews for an ongoing case.
  • An officer responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the 400 block of N. Water Street. The officer made contact with driver, who was parked to listen to music. No criminal activity was discerned.

November 5, 2019

  • While doing school patrol, an officer was informed by a juvenile about a possible fence on fire on Little Street. The officer located the fire and found it to be contained but producing the illusion that the fence was on fire.
  • An officer received a call from the concerned mother of a Madrid juvenile. The mother said she was informed that her child had snuck out of the house last night. The officer interviewed a second juvenile, who confirmed the first juvenile showed up at the second juvenile’s house in the middle of the night and then went back home. The officer called the mother back and reported his findings.
  • Officers responded to a report of road rage involving two vehicles traveling northbound into city. An at-fault driver was located and stopped.
  • An officer conducted a traffic stop at Kennedy Avenue and E. 22nd Street. An equipment warning was issued.
  • An officer responded to a fire alarm at the Cedars. A smoke alarm was activated by burned popcorn in a microwave. The alarm was reset.

November 6, 2019

  • An officer assisted the Madrid Fire/Rescue on a medical call in the 300 block of S. Cedar Street.
  • An officer was dispatched to a retail store, where he performed a vehicle unlock.
  • An officer assisted Madrid Fire/Rescue on a medical call in the 900 block of S. Kennedy Avenue.

November 7, 2019

  • An officer initiated a traffic stop on Iowa Highway 17 just north of town. The vehicle passed a row of five vehicles while traveling at a very high rate of speed and then had to cut a vehicle off to keep from striking another vehicle.
  • An officer was dispatched to the 200 block of S. State Street for a juvenile who was not following her mother’s instructions. The juvenile daughter was picked up by a male and left for an unknown location instead of reporting to school. The officer checked several areas but was unable to locate the juvenile.
  • An officer received a call about a stolen lawn mower in the 500 block of S. Main Street. The officer received a second call from the owner, who said he located it and forgot that he had already put it away for the winter in the garage.
  • An officer spoke to a Madrid resident who reported that he lost his wedding ring last night after his vehicle broke down. The officer assisted the owner in retracing his steps from last night. The owner called back later in the day and reported the ring was located at home.

November 8, 2019

  • An officer assisted Boone County Ambulance in the 300 block of S. Cedar Street on a lift assist.
  • An officer followed up on two junk vehicles that the owner was warned about on County Line Road.
  • An officer received a call from a Madrid resident about a phone scam. The officer met with the caller and spoke to the scammer on the phone. The scammer laughed and hung up. The resident did not receive any further calls.
  • An officer received a call from a Madrid resident who reported a hit-and-run on his vehicle that was parked in the 700 block of E. Sixth Street. The officer collected evidence from the scene and left a business card on a neighbor’s door, because it appeared from the scene that the vehicle that struck it backed out of that driveway.

November 9, 2019

  • An officer responded to the 300 block of E. First Street regarding possible criminal mischief. After a short investigation, everything was determined to be okay.
  • An officer met up with another officer to retrieve recovered stolen property.
  • An officer met with a person about questions he had regarding a workplace incident.
  • An officer unlocked a vehicle at a retail store.

November 10, 2019

  • An officer performed a vehicle unlock in the 100 block of S. Water Street.
  • An officer received a phone call about a child-custody issue. The officer advised the caller the issue was a civil issue that needs to be worked out by the parents.
  • An officer returned recovered stolen property to its owner.
  • An officer responded to Zook Spur Road immediately outside of city limits after the Dallas County Sheriff’s office requested assistance with a single-vehicle roll-\over accident there. The vehicle was found unoccupied, but the officer located the driver at his residence in town, and he was okay.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
