Madrid Police Report October 7-12

October 7, 2019

  • An officer spoke to the Madrid Public Works Director about damage in Edgewood Park over the weekend again. The city staff continues to find garbage cans turned over and spread about along with damage to grass and property from vehicles driving where they are not supposed to. An officer will be installing trail cams in different locations in the park. Anyone found to be doing damage to any city property will be criminally charged and trespassed from the property.
  • An officer served a notice to an owner of two junk vehicles on County Line Road.
  • An officer performed a vehicle unlock in the 500 block of Milwaukee Street.
  • An officer spoke to a victim of a past theft/fraud case and asked for additional information, as requested by the Assistant Boone County Attorney.
  • An officer assisted a person whose vehicle broke down at a retail store. The officer gave the person a ride to where he was going in town.
  • An officer spoke to a past Madrid resident about a case in February of this year. The resident requested a copy of the report.
  • An officer was dispatched to 107 Jonathan Drive for a mother having trouble with out-of-control child. The mother was given options, and the child was warned.
  • An officer performed traffic stop at Sixth Street and Kennedy Avenue and gave a verbal warning to a driver for a driving infraction.
  • An officer observed a group of juveniles sitting in the street on Green Street. They were advised to all go home.

October 8, 2019

  • An officer was called to the 300 block of E. 22nd Street for a cat that was out of control inside a residence. The caller rescued the animal, and it was not taking it well. The officer was able to catch the animal and place it in a pet carrier so the owner could return it.
  • An officer was called to the 500 block of W. Fifth Street for a found dog. The officer kept the animal all day and then called the Humane Society to pick the animal up after he was not claimed. The animal was too big to go into the city pens. The officer located a chip in the dog but after checking four different databases, no owner registration could be located.
  • An officer received information on a found knife on the bike trail. The officer recovered the item and took it to the Madrid Police Department for safe keeping.
  • An officer was called to Edgewood Park for a loud motorcycle that was driving fast. The caller said the vehicle was out last night as well. The officer was unable to locate it but will keep an eye out. While at the park, the officer spoke to a group of kids about the ongoing damage at the park and warned them of consequences for anyone who is caught doing damage.
  • Officers were contacted by dispatch, who reported that a stabbing victim was down at a Des Moines Hospital being treated for his wound. A Des Moines Police Department Officer was speaking to him, and it was found out that he lived in Madrid and that the crime occurred here in the 300 block of N. Union Street. Two officers responded to the scene and a third to the hospital. The victim would not cooperate with the officer or give any information on what occurred.

October 9, 2019

  • An officer spoke to a Madrid resident who received a scam phone call from someone claiming to be with Social Security Administration. The resident did confirm some information to the caller. The officer directed the resident to call his bank and credit card companies and put a fraud watch on his accounts.
  • An officer assisted Madrid Fire/Rescue on a call in the 200 block of S. Cedar Street. The owner called when her CO2 detector started going off. The Madrid Fire Department found no trace of CO2 and found the detector was right on the line for replacement. The officer provided the owner with a new CO2 detector to keep her and her small child safe.
  • An officer responded to 100 block of S. Cedar Street for a residential smoke alarm and assisted the Madrid Fire Department. The alarm was false.

October 10, 2019

  • An officer assisted a Madrid resident after she accidentally locked herself out of her residence on W. Second Street. The officer was able to gain entry for the owner.
  • An officer responded to the 500 block of E. Sixth Street for a report of vandalism to a motor vehicle.

October 11, 2019

  • An officer responded to the Madrid Historical Museum for an alarm.
  • An officer unlocked a vehicle at a retail store.
  • An officer responded to a report of an erratic driver but was unable to make a case.

October 12, 2019

  • An officer provided a funeral escort.
  • An officer received a complaint from a citizen regarding speeding on Iowa Highway 17 coming into town on the south end. The officer ran radar in the area, and no speeding violations occurred.
  • An officer responded to the 400 block of Southern Prairie for a vehicle unlock.
  • An officer responded to the 600 block of Brody Lane to perform a welfare check on a juvenile reportedly having a mental health crisis. The officer determined the person no longer lived at the residence and was currently living in Boone. The officer assisted the Boone Police Department in locating the person.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
