Madrid Police Report September 9-15

September 9, 2019

  • An officer received a call of a lost dog. Shortly after receiving the call, a city worker reported a dog matching the description in the 100 block of Maple Ridge. The officer called the owner back and left a message for them to respond to the area.
  • An officer sent a follow up email to a Madrid resident who made a complaint over the Labor Day celebration about an ATV riding on Iowa Highway 210 and Iowa highway 17. The officer investigated and found it to be staff needing to go to a retail store to get items for vendors downtown. The subject was addressed in the open council meeting as well, but the officer followed up with the complainant after she sent another email asking why her complaint did not make the blotter.
  • An officer spoke to a Madrid resident on Southern Prairie Drive regarding issues he was having with the neighbor’s dog, who keeps trying to jump the fence and get into his back yard, where he has two small dogs.
  • An officer received a request for a copy of an accident report from an insurance company representing one of the drivers. The officer mailed the report after receiving payment.
  • An officer did a background check on a resident residing just outside the Madrid city limits for a federal investigator.
  • An officer responded to a report of a domestic disturbance in the 600 block of S. Green Street. The officer arrested Kevin Johns for domestic assault.
  • An officer returned a call to a Madrid resident who returned home from vacation to find his water shut off. The city posted the wrong residence and turned off the water. The officer called a city water employee, who went out and turned the water back on for the resident.

September 10, 2019

  • An officer followed up on a domestic arrest from the previous night.
  • An officer was called to the alley behind VFW for a utility pole that fell. The officer notified the Madrid Public Works Department to place barricades to block the alley and Third Street.  The officer had dispatch contact the electric, phone and cable companies to advise them.
  • An officer assisted Madrid Fire/Rescue on a medical call in the 400 block of N. Water Street.
  • An officer assisted Madrid Fire/Rescue and Boone County Ambulance with a lift assist on a medical call in the 500 block of Milwaukee Street.

September 11, 2019

  • An officer spoke to a Story County DHS worker regarding a past Madrid resident. The officer forwarded her past calls for service dealing with the former resident.
  • An officer spoke to a Madrid mother regarding her 14-year-old daughter drinking at her dad’s house this past weekend. The officer gave her the number for the Boone Police Department to speak with them on the issue.
  • An officer spoke to a Madrid resident regarding a scooter that he bought and then found the title was from 2011. The officer explained the options to have the title brought up to date to license.
  • An officer assisted a young man with a flat tire on his bike at the library. It was determined that the tube had been popped and could not be fixed there, so the officer loaded the bike and young man up and took him home.
  • An officer responded to the 600 block of Maverick Lane for a juvenile having mental health issues. The officer assisted EMS, and the juvenile was referred to Blank Children’s Hospital.

September 12, 2019

  • An officer assisted a Madrid High School student by giving the student a ride from the elementary school to the high school after the student missed the bus due to over-sleeping.
  • An officer met with the Madrid Public Works Director and made plans to change locations and add both stop signs and yield signs throughout the city.
  • An officer spoke to the owner of the laundromat, who had video of juveniles committing a theft over the Labor Day celebration. The officer was able to identify the juveniles on the video. Theft charges are pending in this case.
  • An officer returned a phone call to a Madrid resident after the resident left a message with Madrid City Hall staff.
  • An officer took a report of a vehicle driving too fast through a residential neighborhood. The officer was unable to locate the described vehicle.

September 13 2019

  • An officer and city officials tested the new emergency siren.
  • An officer followed up on a theft from the Madrid laundromat.
  • An officer spoke to a Madrid resident regarding a possible theft.

September 14, 2019

  • An officer received a call about an ongoing neighborhood issue.
  • An officer performed a traffic stop Iowa Highway 210 and County Line Road. The driver was warned for the infraction.

September 15, 2019

  • An officer responded to a down power line on fire in the 600 block of W Fifth Street. The officer assisted the Madrid Fire Department, and the power company was called.
  • An officer responded to a vehicle unlock at the Madrid Home.
  • An officer responded to a report of vandalism involving toilet tissue in trees. The homeowner victim identified the vandal prior to the officer’s arrival and did not want to pursue investigation.
  • An officer received a call of two dogs who got away from home.
  • An officer received a call about a suspicious vehicle. The officer checked the vehicle, and everything appeared to be okay.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
