Magic tricks by the Amazing Esteban -- also known as Steve Brinton -- were among the popular activities during the Week of the Young Child at the Perry Child Development Center.

The Perry Child Development Center’s annual Week of the Young Child celebration brought a variety of diverting activities to please the local daycare youngsters.

“This is always a lot of fun and a great way to remind our families just how rich an environment we offer the youngsters here,” said 40-year Director of the Perry Child Development Center Laurie Wernli.

Monday featured literacy games with Suzanne Kestel of the Perry Public Library, and Tuesday’s activity saw the daycare children awed by the Amazing Esteban’s magic tricks.

Wednesday morning brought Perry Police Department Detective Laura Deaton to the center for a visit, including story time and a tour of a squad car. Thursday’s science theme featured a STEM presentation by Iowa Public Television’s Kelly Nesheim and the return of magic by the Amazing Esteban.

Friday’s theme was musical, with Perry High School Band Director Brad Sparks and several PHS band students bringing their instruments for demonstration.

Families enrolled at the Perry Child Development Center also enjoyed a potluck dinner Thursday evening, with hot dogs and buns donated by the Perry Hy-Vee.
