The Perry High School Black Gang celebrates their victory Friday, as the junior class claimed the Spirit Stick after earning the most spirit points during Homecoming week. It is the second consecutive Spirit Stick win for the Class of 2017, who also earned bragging rights as sophomores.

The current junior class at Perry High School made it clear Friday that when it comes to school spirit, the Class of 2017 is top of the pole … err, stick.

When the final tally of spirit points were awarded at the conclusion of “Game Day” Friday, it was the juniors who claimed the right to parade the PHS Spirit Stick — symbolic of the class with the most spirit — at Friday’s Homecoming game.

The juniors will be parading the PHS Spirit Stick at tonight's Homecoming game after winning the week-long spirit points competition. The win is the second consecutive for the Class of 2017.

Points had been earned throughout the week during themed clothing days (Pajama, Twins, Patriotic and Class Color) as well as for Home Room door and hallway decorations. Points were also accumulated Friday when students spent from 1-3 p.m. in the gym for various competitions as part of “Game Day.”

Capture the Flag, girls dodgeball, boys dodgeball and knockout events were held, with the day ending as the football team divided into classes for a tug o-war, which was won by the seniors.

The class divisions ended quickly, with all eager to support the Bluejays in their Homecoming game at Dewey Field against the Bulldogs of Algona.
