Man allegedly punches woman who trashed apartment

Tyler Garrett Brady, 38, of West Des Moines was arrested Sunday on a charge of willful injury causing bodily injury.

A West Des Moines man was arrested early Sunday after allegedly punching a Kansas woman who allegedly wrecked his residence.

Tyler Garrett Brady, 38, of 8730 E. P. True Parkway, West Des Moines, was charged with willful injury causing bodily injury.

The incident began about 1 a.m. Sunday, when officers of the West Des Moines Police Department responded to a report of am assault in the 8700 block of E. P. True Parkway.

Officer made contact with the female victim from Overland, Kansas, who said Brady “struck her in the face five times” and “struck her with a closed fist,” according to court records.

Officers observed “marks and bruises on her face and head” and “an injury to her hand that was caused by a cut from a piece of glass.”

The victim said she and Brady “had been drinking, and she was upset over finding out’ Brady “was cheating on her,” according to court records.

The victim said she was engaged in “destroying his apartment by trashing it” when Brady “approached her and assaulted her.”

Brady confirmed the victim’s account of “destroying his apartment,” but he “denied ever striking or putting his hands on the victim,” according to court records. Brady said the victim “struck him in the face with an open hand.”

Brady is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $10,000 cash-only bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Oct. 23 in Dallas County District Court.

Garrett was convicted of first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness in 2019 in Polk County District Court.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
