Marilyn Stewart of Perry passed away Thursday, Sept. 22, 2022, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa, surrounded by loving family.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday, Nov. 22 at 10 a.m. at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Perry, with visitation beginning at 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at the Valley View Cemetery near Perry.

She was born in Rippey, Iowa, to Frank and Bonnie Potter.

Marilyn graduated from Perry High School and went on to work for Merriweather-Wilson for more than 30 years as a tax preparer and eventually built her own tax business.

She loved gardening, especially her award-winning roses, and taking care of her beautiful yard and home.

Marilyn won Yard of the Year and was featured on the cover of Perry Living in 2012 for her “stunning landscape” and flower gardens. She won King of Show twice, once in 2004, and Queen of Show in 2005 for her prized roses at the Iowa State Fair.

She loved sewing, crafting, painting and shopping.

Marilyn was a faithful member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Perry.

She married Gregory Plack in 2015 and was preceded in death by him; her daughter, Kristi Murphy; her parents; and her brother, Larry Potter.

She is survived by her daughters, Kimberlee (Daniel) Schoenthal and Sherri (Russell) Long; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Lee (Bonnie) Potter; sister, Patricia (Norm) Conley; sister, Jeraldine (Gaylen) Holcomb; brother, Jerry (Carol) Potter; sister, Bonnie (Gary) Bachle; and brother, Rick (Shari) Potter.

Memorials will be given to St. Patrick Catholic Church and may be left at the Carris Funeral Home and Cremation Care. Online condolences may be left at www.carrisfuneralhome.com.
