Marilyn Brewer, 89, of Adel died Thursday, July 2, 2015 at Rowley Memorial Masonic Home in Perry.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 6 at 2:30 p.m. at the Minburn United Methodist Church in Minburn. Visitation will be Sunday, July 5 from 2-6 p.m., with family present to greet friends from 4-6 p.m. at Carris Family Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery at Minburn, with refreshments following at the church.

Memorials may be given to Minburn United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association and may be left at the Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent to www.carrisfuneralhome.com.

Mrs. Brewer was born in 1925 in Scott County, Iowa, to Elmer and Ella Klever.

She married William Brewer Sept. 1, 1951, in Davenport, Iowa.

She graduated from Davenport High School in 1943 and relocated to Des Moines, where she was a secretary in the insurance industry when she met William Brewer at the Val Air Ballroom in West Des Moines, She retired from the Hawkeye Security Insurance Company during the summer of 1951.

She loved to read, dance, play cards, bake and, most of all, have her children and grandchildren surrounding her as frequently as possible.

Marilyn was a member of the Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority for more than 35 years and assisted with their numerous charitable programs.

Additionally, she frequently volunteered at the Minburn Methodist Church, having served once in the capacity of secretary.

 

Survivors include her husband, William Brewer, of Perry; sons, Thomas (Mary) Brewer of Adel, Wayne Brewer of Albuquerque, N.M., and Donald Brewer of Portland, Ore.; grandchildren, Jill Brewer, Jennifer Brewer, Erica (Kristian) Carrico, Nicole (Hank) Brewer Xi, Jessica (Jamie) Johnson and Rebecca (Scott) Russell; and five great grand-children.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Elmer Klever Jr., and a sister, Joan Illian.

Marilyn’s family wishes to extend their gratitude and appreciation to the staff of the Rowley Memorial Masonic Home for their care and support.
